Videoclip of my arrangement of Gottschalk’s “O ma charmante, épargnez moi’. Together with Pernell Saturnino and Roslin Bey. Video by Selwyn De Wind. Track is available on my album “Soko”.

Kris Berry, Randal Corsen and I recorded this beautiful piece in 2017 for our collaborative album Raís. This particular piece, Sunú, was composed by Oswin ”Chin” Behilia and the version we’re playing here was arranged by @Randal Corsen. These recordings were made in the MCO building in Hilversum for Just Listen records

Niño Lindo (beautiful child) is a Venezuelan Aguinaldo (Christmas carol) from the San Pedro de Los Altos region in Estado Miranda. Nobody knows who the author is, still it is one of the most famous Christmas songs in Venezuela. It is also very popular on the ABC islands where Venezuelan Aguinaldos and Gaitas are heard a lot around Christmas and New Years. I can’t actually recall where and when exactly I heard Niño Lindo for the first time. My mom grew up in Venezuela and my parents still have a small finca there. So it might’ve been just at home or during one of the many trips I took to visit my Venezuelan grandmother in Adicora. What I do know is that it has always given me a strange sense of comforting. Maybe it’s the way the melody builds up, around a minor third interval, just like it does in the blues
